Recent Take Heart events have provided funding for an IT education centre in central India. This IT centre has been built from scratch and will provide an invaluable resource for many people to gain increased employability.

The school is also a base for many other activities such as English language training, environmental awareness education, etc. There are opportunities for British volunteers to work within the school which enables a shared learning experience. ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’. (Nelson Mandela)

Take Heart also provides placements for British medics to get some hands on invaluable experience working with patients in India. Take Heart projects are aimed to be a two way process benefiting British students by experiencing the developing world and benefiting developing India by supplementing education with a broader perspective. Several medics have already worked within the various hospitals within the MSS and found the experience highly rewarding.

One of Take Heart main goals is to educate about the environment and the growing global environmental crisis. The Take Heart IT School has the additional aim to provide environmental education in rural areas of India. A lack of education is the number one cause for many if not all of the global problems we face today. Education projects must therefore start on a local and community base.

Take Heart has future plans to go beyond environmental education and begin practical ‘re-forestation’ projects in areas that have become little more than desert due to logging in India.

Take Heart’s home, Anandwan, provides a unique example of environmental projects accessible to all.

The key aim of the Take Heart IT school is to provide computer training to disadvantaged youths. However, the project aims to provide further opportunities for:
  • Patients involved in the plastic reuse and Check dam projects to learn why plastic reuse is needed and important
  • Education about global environmental issues
  • Education seminars on populations and birth control
  • A base for general education on the activities carried out at Anandwan
  • British and Australian volunteers to help with the English speaking and IT teaching
  • Any other useful education projects to be implemented
