Recent Take Heart events have provided funding for an IT education centre in central India. This IT centre has been built from scratch and will provide an invaluable resource for many people to gain increased employability. The school specialises in training blind students to use computers. In just three years the school is now recognised as one of India’s top 3 centres for the training of blind students in IT skills. We are even setting the national curriculum for the training of blind teachers to teach IT skills. Since opening the school has trained hundreds of blind and deaf students. As well as this thousands of able bodied students have been through the centre to complete their exams. It costs us just £37 to train a blind student for 6 months in IT skills. After this training the student passes their MSC-IT exams and are guaranteed a government job using their new found computer skills. Our next project is to build a hostel to sleep over 100 students next to the IT school. This will provide a home to blind and handicapped students from all over India while they complete their IT training. This is a very ambitious project. 100% of proceeds from all events go towards this project. We aim to complete the funding of this as soon as possible.

The IT school is also a base for many other activities such as English language training, environmental awareness education, etc. There are opportunities for British volunteers to work within the school which enables a shared learning experience. 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world'. (Nelson Mandela) Take Heart also provides placements for British medics to get some hands on invaluable experience working with patients in India. medics have already worked within the various hospitals within the MSS and found the experience highly rewarding.
