Take Heart is a youth run charity focused on practical education projects in India. We are relatively unique in the charity sector for two reasons: 1. We do not employ a single person, which means that 100% of proceeds are directed out to our education projects in India. 2. We run with the leitmotiv "Work builds, charity destroys". Rather than giving money we aim to empower people through practical education.

Since 2004 Take Heart has built an English language and IT school that has provided real job opportunities to thousands of students. The school specialises in training blind students IT skills. It costs just £37 to provide a 6 month training course which secures these blind students with a job for life.

Take Heart primarily supports a parent organisation called the MSS, the lifetime achievement of the legendary Baba Amte. The awareness of Take Heart has been growing quickly over the years. In 2003 Take Heart became entirely student run. 36 student committee members were established at universities across the UK. Take heart is no longer entirely student run but remains entirely youth focused.

Founded by Count Arthur Tarnowski in 1962 Take Heart is a visionary charity that has provided aid and rehabilitation to the physically handicapped people of rural India.

Himself disabled and wheelchair-bound by Polio in his late twenties, Count Arthur Tarnowski set-up Take Heart after visiting India on a two year expedition to assess the plight of those with disabilities throughout rural Asia for the Readers Digest.

Upon meeting the legendary Baba Amte, who Ghandi dubbed ‘Conqueror of Fear’, Count Tarnowski set up Take Heart in partnership with Anandwan and the Maharogi Sewa Samiti (mss.niya.org); the institution founded by Baba Amte.

Since then Take Heart has run in close partnership with the MSS. In the past all proceeds from Take Heart have been passed on to various projects within the MSS.

In 2003 Lucian and Sebastian Tarnowski took over the running of the charity from their Father. A new board was established and the charity was given a new direction. A group of leading young people were gathered together to form the ball committee. These included people such as Sam Branson (son of Sir Richard). Take Heart has developed in a true grass roots fashion. All volunteers are welcome under the condition that their time is volunteered without pay.

Lucian (http://unhub.com/lucian) has ambitious plans for Take Heart. As well as the fundraising events each year it is his aim to get more and more young people aware of the work of Take Heart. Many young entrepreneurs are now also supporting the charity. Whether it is Nude Calendars, racing across India in a Tuk Tuk or the ElectroTherapy night; there are many ways to support Take Heart!
